True Wardrobe Essentials Part 4 - The Striped Top

For as long as I can remember a striped top has been an important part of my wardrobe. When talking about wardrobe essentials with clients, it is right up there at the top of the list. It is one of those pieces that gets so much use, in fact there is very little in your wardrobe that cant be styled with a striped top. Here are some tips that will help you pick a style:

Tips for buying a striped top

  • Stick to the more traditional colours, i.e navy or black with white, these colour combos are most versatile

  • Try and avoid fabrics with too much elastine, to avoid it clinging to any unwanted areas. A cotton mix is best.

  • Choose a flattering neck line, I love the Theo and George boat neckline

  • Choose a full length sleeve or a 3/4 length as it’s a great piece for layering throughout the year

  • Avoid going for a size that is too small, this is a casual piece that should be worn loosely

  • Stripes comes in lots of colours and sizes. The key is choosing a style to suit your individual body shape. For larger sizes horizontal stripes are more flattering

  • Calculate the cost per wear of the top? Sometimes the more expensive piece may be better value in the long rum

  • Ask yourself will you wear it a minimum of 30 times
