My sister Brenda and her husband Diarmaid got married on the 27th of December in Malahide Church. They decided to opt for a small family wedding and have their reception in the Merrion Hotel with 24 guests followed by a party with friends a few days later in Fallon and Byrne. It was the most amazing wedding from start to finish. There was so much excitement in the build up to it - from helping Brenda chose her outfit(s) to picking something for Bobby to wear to his first wedding.
Brenda didn't want to go down the route of buying a traditional wedding dress instead she wanted to go for something contemporary that she could wear again. This is something I think more and more brides are starting to do and I personally think it makes much more sense. It's such a shame when brides spend thousands on a dress that can only be worn once. However, I do also get that it is such a special day that you would be forgiven for splashing out on your dream dress even if its only going to see the light of day that one time.
After many evenings of trawling through Netaporter, Matchesfashion and Shopstyle with Brenda she came across her dream dress. It was a Victoria Beckham piece. Brenda trains like a professional athlete so the dress was just perfect for her figure! For anyone considering buying a Victoria Beckham dress, bear in mind that their sizing is tiny and don't expect to be able to take any large steps!!! She purchased the dress from the Net a Porter website. As it was a winter wedding the next challenge was to find a coat or a jacket to wear with the dress. VB had a magnificent coat that would have been fab but priced at €2500 it was way over budget. Instead, she got the most fantastic match for it in Brown Thomas, a label called Claudie Pierlot. The fabric and colour were exactly the same and its definitely a piece that she will get plenty of wear out of again. Finally, the shoes! The shoes are always my favourite part. Brenda knew she wanted something with a bit of sparkle to add a some glitz to the look!!! This was proving to be a very difficult task as a lot of the shoes didn't work with the dress - they were either too sparkly, too high or too wide on Brenda's narrow foot. Time was getting very tight, the wedding was closing in quickly when Brenda took one final look in Brown Thomas and found a limited edition pair of Jimmy Choos'. They were exactly what she was looking for!
I really loved the whole look, I think it really suited her personality, style, figure and perfect for the type of occasion. I'm pretty sure Brenda's wedding dress will be off limits to me - I'd love to sneak a wear of it some day or night ! - but, I look forward to helping her style it a number of different ways in the future.
The groom Diarmaid, also looked very handsome on the day wearing his navy blue Ted baker suit and his Massimo Dutti coat.
